Fashion Week Party Circuit
So, somehow managed to hit up a good number of parties this fashion week. The week started on Thursday, September 10th, and continued until September 17th. Though its almost a week after the fact, here’s a day-by-day chronicle of my nightly excursions:
Thursday: Hit up Opening Ceremony for Fashion’s Night Out. You can read about it on a previous post dated September 14, 2009. Called it a relatively early night after hitting up a couple of bars in the area.
Friday: Went to the Dossier Magazine / Misshapes Party at the Tribeca Grand. Same ole downtown hipster coterie, some fascinating people watching, and like most parties with this crew, there was shameless quadruple fisting at the ridiculously crowded open bar. The party was fun…i guess nothing particularly memorable…Leigh Lezark is a goddess though.
Saturday: Went back to the Tribeca Grand for the Seven / Nicholas Kirkwood Party. Seriously, it was deja vu. Could not be more similar from the party the night before. Same venue, EXACT same crowd, same long lines at the bar. After an hour of reliving our previous night’s experience, decided we had enough and headed over the Metal Magazine party at the Cabanas at the Maritime Hotel. The venue should have been a clue….we left after a quick 10. Having had enough of the fashion parties for the night, we started heading to 1Oak in search of a trashy good time. Ironically, we ran into Kevin from Tim Hamilton on the way over, who was heading to the same direction. Partied it up there for a couple of hours, and then headed to Avenue, where the serial bottle popper was on the prowl again. For those not in New York, you can read about the notorious Cristal enthusiast here: http://guestofaguest.com/best-2k/avenue-the-serial-bottle-popper-strikes-again/. Got my drank on. Went home at 5:30 am. Good night.
Sunday: Day of rest.
Monday: Another day of rest. Lame…I know, but I have a job peoples.
Tuesday: Dropped by the John Varvatos “Free the Noise” event, where some unsigned bands competed for a record contract, accompanied by open Patron bar. “Noise” is right. It is no wonder why these bands are unsigned…stuck around for a little bit for the Patron, until we decided that the free liquor wasn’t worth it. Headed to the Upper Westside where we met up with Andreyna who was celebrating the big 21!
Per usual, we went to Avenue, where we met Amanda Bynes in the bathroom line. Word to your mother, that cute, friendly little persona that Nickelodeon conjured up is about as fictional as her tan. Ho, fall back. You are waiting in the bathroom line just like the rest of us.
The party then headed over to 1Oak, where we saw Busta. ‘Twas the night of D-List celebrity sitings.
Wednesday: Started the night at the Philip Lim Afterparty. Mr. Lim knows how to throw a party! Strangely, there was more bumping and grinding than hob-nobbing…far from what you’d expect from this crowd. Had funk-master flex at the turn table who had the crowd going for a good few hours. The highlight of the evening was definitely JonCarlos who could give Beyonce a run for her money. Fun times to say the least.
From there, went to the Proenza Schouler party in the East Village. Another laid back crowd that was just kicking it and having a good time. Among the recognizable faces were one of the Olsens (I’m assuming Ashley??) and Hamish Bowles. I was functioning off of 2 hours of sleep the night before, so I had to peace early. Called it a night at 3am.
Thursday: It’s already been a full week? How time flies…Alia arrived today for the Rendez-vous show !! (Blog update to follow). Started the night at Oak, where we dropped by to say hello and congratulate Michael Venker of Rochambeau who was having a cocktail reception for his new collection. After resting up a bit at home, we preceded to the Rendez-vous Opening Party at the Bowery Hotel, which, to our surprise, was already over!! Really?? I know its been a long week, but a party ending at 11pm…unacceptable. Then crashed Rogan Gregory of the clothing line Rogan’s birthday party in the East Village, which was also over by the time we got there…the evening was looking to be a bust, so we just decided to go to Marquee and drink free booze.
It was a pretty eventful week…didn’t keep me from going out Friday, Saturday and Sunday though. Let’s just say, I’m exhausted, and still recovering…
Party reel is below (though I can’t figure out how to turn the pictures upright for the life of me)
